If you are an adult, there's a pretty good chance you have some dental bonding somewhere in your mouth. Dental bonding is used by dentists to repair teeth that have minor cracks or chips. Bonding is also used to fill in gaps in teeth, such as between the two front teeth. Bonding can also be used to cover a discolored tooth. Dentists love bonding, because it is a simple and inexpensive way to cover up problem teeth. However, once you have bonding, you will need to care for your teeth a little differently than when you didn't have bonding. Not sure how to go about caring for your bonded teeth? First, you need to know that you cannot eat or drink food that might stain the resin for the first 48 hours after the procedure. Such foods would be coffee, tea, and berries.After the 48 hours have passed, you need to make sure that you brush your teeth after you eat foods that might stain your teeth. Also, bonding is not as strong as your natural teeth are. Be careful not to chew your fingernails, ice or pens. Also, don't open containers with your teeth. All of these activities may dislocate the bonding. With good care, bonding can last for years. However, if at any time you notice sharp edges on teeth that have been bonded, or you notice pieces or chips missing from your bonding, you need to see a dentist.
