Did You Know Stress Can Make Your Teeth Hurt?

Did You Know Stress Can Make Your Teeth Hurt? When most people experience stress, they get nervous about everything and are often short-tempered. However, that is not the only damage that stress can do. It can also harm your oral health, specifically your teeth.

If you find that your teeth hurt a lot when you are stressed out, it is likely due to bruxism. This is when you grind, or you clench your teeth. The more stressed out you are, the more you may do this without even realizing it. Bruxism has far-reaching effects.

How Stress Leads to Dental Pain

Grinding and clenching your teeth puts a lot of pressure on your teeth. You push down on your teeth and it leads to cracked teeth or teeth that simply get worn down as time goes by. The more you clench and grind your teeth, the more the top layers of enamel on your teeth wear down. This can lead to struggles eating, increased pain, tooth sensitivity, and even tooth loss in the most extreme cases.

Instead of allowing your stress to take over your teeth, you need to take some steps to reduce your stress. Planning things out ahead of time, exercising to help your mind focus, and even things like meditation can help reduce the effects or the instances of bruxism. Plus, we can help, too.

If you notice that when you try to focus you tend to brush your teeth, then let us know that. The sooner we know about it, the more we can do to fix the problem. We will be able to notice the problem over time, but we will see it as a result of damage. Our goal is to put protection in place before damage is obvious. To figure out what treatment options you have for teeth affected by bruxism, reach out to our office. We can help!
