Aesthetic Gum Lift Everett, WA
If you are currently unhappy with your smile due to uneven gum tissue, then Cooley Smiles can help! We offer a procedure known as an aesthetic gum lift, which can even out your gumline and gives you a smile you have always wanted! The procedure is designed to help patients with gums that dominate the teeth. If you feel self-conscious about your "gummy" smile, an aesthetic gum lift can raise your self-esteem, improve your confidence, and benefit your mental health.
When Is an Aesthetic Gum Lift Appropriate?
Gums that cover a sizable portion of your teeth can make your teeth appear smaller than they are. Large gums may be the result of genetics, a particular health problem, or certain prescription medications. If your gums rest too low on your teeth, you may be a suitable candidate for an aesthetic gum lift. A gum lift is considered a cosmetic procedure; however, it can also be used to place a crown if the tooth has broken off near the root. This is known as crown lengthening. Most of the time a gum lift is not medically necessary. Most patients have their gums lifted to improve the appearance of their smile.
Gum Lift Procedure
During your consultation appointment, our Cooley Smiles dentists will perform a comprehensive exam to ensure a gum lift is right for you. Once we deem the procedure appropriate, we can begin with treatment planning. There are several ways to recontour your gums, using scalpels, lasers, and radiosurgery. We use a specialized diode laser because it offers several benefits over other traditional methods.
Before we begin the procedure, we will administer a local anesthetic to numb your gum tissues and eliminate discomfort. Using the laser, we will then remove your excess gum tissue, while simultaneously sealing the tissue to prevent ongoing bleeding. This method is the most effective because there is little to no healing time. The laser will cauterize your incisions instantly. We can also use the laser to eradicate any periodontal pockets that trap bacteria and cause infection.
After Your Gum Lift
Most patients will be able to return to their daily lives immediately following a gum lift. However, we ask that you clear your schedule the day of your surgery or at least limit your activities. While the incision is instantly cauterized, you may still experience some minor pain or discomfort in the days that follow. You can ease you any pain with over-the-counter medications, such as Advil or Tylenol. We also recommend eating soft, cool foods for the first few days after surgery. Be sure to avoid spicy or grainy foods until your gums have completely healed.
If you notice any excess swelling or blessing, please contact us immediately. Like any surgery, there are minor risks, but there are very few complications associated with a gum lift. It is important to practice good dental hygiene in the weeks following the procedure. This can prevent the development of infection. While brushing and flossing, you may need to be more gentle than usual until your gums fully heal.
