Is Invisalign® Right For Me? Everett WA

Hand holding Invisalign clear aligner tray from Cooley Smiles in Everett, WAHaving crooked or misaligned teeth comes with many challenges, not only aesthetics. The American Dental Association notes that straightening crooked teeth can improve your dental health. Although traditional braces are still common, orthodontics technology has improved and invented better ways to address the issue of crooked teeth. For people seeking to straighten teeth without having a mouth full of brackets and wires, Invisalign is a preferred option. At Cooley Smiles, we help our patients straighten their teeth using these custom-fitted aligners.

What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a system comprising transparent plastic aligners that work to shift teeth to target positions over time, hence correcting misalignment issues. It is a great alternative to regular metal braces. Many people do not like the look or feel of metal braces. They find Invisalign a better choice when it comes to straightening teeth inconspicuously.

How Does the Invisalign Process Work?

First, you will check in to our office for a consultation. Our Invisalign dentist will conduct an exam and inspect the mouth to see if Invisalign is right for your teeth straightening needs. When cleared for Invisalign, the custom aligner trays are fabricated using mouth impressions and digital x-rays.

Our Invisalign dentist creates a digital treatment, helping map out the precise movement of your teeth. The construction of the Invisalign clear aligners is done based on the digital treatment plan. As such, you have aligners that can apply an adequate amount of force within the right place and at the right time, depending on your specific plan. During the treatment, our dentist will work with you every step of the way to monitor how you are progressing and ensure the aligners are fitting correctly.

Our dentist gives you your first trays and offers instructions on how you will use the remaining series of trays. You are also provided with maintenance instructions. To get better results, it is prudent that you wear the aligners as advised. You are required to have them on for 20 to 22 hours daily.

Further, our dentist will let you know when you will switch to the next set of aligners. We understand that everyone is different. For most people, one set will be worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next set. You will wear the aligners for several months until the desired results are obtained. Invisalign can deliver results in as little as six months to about 24 months.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Wearing Invisalign provides many benefits to the patient. They are not only easier to clean but also allow for fewer office visits.

Easier to Clean

Maintaining traditional braces is a hassle for many people. Whether it is enjoying your meal, eating out, or keeping your teeth clean, it can be a painful process. With Invisalign, it makes it easier to keep the mouth, teeth, and trays clean. You can remove the aligner trays and brush them gently with toothpaste and warm, but not hot water, and then reinsert them back in the mouth.

No Food Adjustments

Wearing Invisalign trays allows you to drink and eat whatever you like since you can remove them when indulging in these treats. As such, you do not have to restrict yourself to particular foods. Again, you lessen the time it takes to clean your teeth thereafter. Just make sure that you brush your teeth and rinse your mouth before reinserting the aligners.

Fewer Dental Office Visits

If you wear metal braces, you will need to see the dentist to have the rubber bands changed or the wires adjusted. However, with Invisalign, you have the luxury of enjoying activities while your teeth are being repositioned and aligned. When you get your first aligner trays, you also receive the other trays for the next phases. Therefore, you will not have to visit our office every time you want a new aligner set. This way, you have fewer office visits to our dental office.

More Comfort and a Better Look

The issues of discomfort are common in people wearing regular metal braces. Traditional braces have brackets and wires that bring tension when repositioning teeth. Tightening of these brackets contributes to soreness until you have the tension subside. As a result, you are subjected to a cycle of soreness and discomfort over the course of the treatment.

On the other hand, Invisalign allows you to take out the trays while brushing, eating, and flossing your teeth. As a result, the Invisalign system minimizes pain and discomfort and rubbing against the gums, cheeks, and tongue.

Invisalign is a versatile bite alignment and teeth straightening system. It can work on crowded teeth, gapped teeth, overbites, and underbites. It also works on misaligned teeth and crossbites. Even so, some cases cannot be fixed with Invisalign, such as severe bite and misalignment issues. It is, therefore, prudent that you have our dentist examine your bite or teeth misalignment or malocclusion issues before deciding on Invisalign treatment. The dentist will establish if you are fit for Invisalign.

Is Invisalign Right for Me?

You may be fit for Invisalign if you have crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth. These bite or teeth misalignment issues can bring about cosmetic and functional concerns. Additionally, they can result in oral health problems such as difficulty in cleaning teeth and gums, thus putting you in danger of cavities and gum disease.

If you are hesitant to use traditional braces, then you can opt for Invisalign clear aligners. An ideal Invisalign candidate needs to have a treatable case and should be over 13 years of age. The patient should be committed to this discreet orthodontic treatment. If you cannot manage to wear the aligners for more than 20 hours daily, then you might not fit properly for this treatment.

Furthermore, you should be able to maintain proper oral hygiene. Your permanent teeth need to also have come in to get the treatment. If baby teeth are still present, it may not be easy to predict how the remaining teeth will erupt.
