Process for Porcelain Veneers Everett WA

Woman smiling and showing off her Porcelain Veneers from Cooley Smiles in Everett, WAAt Cooley Smiles, we offer several cosmetic solutions to fix teeth that are chipped, cracked, abnormally-shaped, or discolored. One of these solutions, known as porcelain veneers, are razor thin shells that fit over the front surface of your teeth. Porcelain veneers recreate the natural look of teeth while providing strength and durability comparable to tooth enamel. If you are looking to change the shape, size, or color of your natural teeth, porcelain veneers may be right for you!

Porcelain Veneer Consultation

The first step to determining if porcelain veneers are right for you is exploring the alternatives as well. During your consultation, our Cooley Smiles dentists will discuss the cosmetic services we provide. We will also perform a comprehensive examination to make sure you are a suitable candidate for veneers. This may include x-rays and impressions of your mouth and teeth. Once we have agreed that veneers are right for you, we can begin with treatment planning.

The treatment planning involves your active participation. We want to know exactly what you want to achieve with your veneers. The placement of veneers requires a minor reshaping of your teeth, making it an irreversible procedure. During the treatment planning, be sure to ask questions and voice any concerns. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your new teeth!

Porcelain Veneer Procedure

The veneer procedure is broken down into two appointments, one for preparation and one for the bonding process. During the preparation, we must remove a very small amount of enamel from the front surface of the tooth. We typically remove about ½ millimeter of enamel, roughly the thickness of the veneer. Before we begin, we may administer local anesthetic if you have sensitivity issues with your teeth and gums. Once the teeth are prepared, we will take a molded impression. This impression will be used to make a model of your newly-shaped teeth. The model is then sent to our dental laboratory, where they will fabricate your porcelain veneers.

This process may take several weeks to complete. Once we receive your veneers, we can schedule your second appointment. During this appointment, we will place the veneers on the teeth to examine their fit and color. We may need to trim some excess to achieve the proper fit. The color can also be adjusted, depending on the shade of cement we use. Once we are satisfied with the look, we will roughen the surface of the tooth using an acid solution. A more abrasive surface improves the strength of the bond. Next, we will apply the cement and place the veneer. We will use a special curing light that activates the cement and expedites the process. Finally, we will remove any excess cement and evaluate your bite to make sure there are no issues.

After Your Receive Porcelain Veneers

While veneers do need to be replaced at some point, most can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years under the proper care and maintenance. Veneers typically do not require any special care. However, you should implement good oral hygiene practices if you want to increase the longevity of your veneers.
